The foundation Families in Need Hildesheim
The foundation Families in Need encourages and supports children, teenagers and adolescents. FiN enables participation and development that would otherwise fail due to the families’ lack of possibilities and resources. In cooperation with different consulting offers of the Diakonisches Werk and other services, FiN provides support for families in need. The network of supporters, companies and institutions that the foundation has in the region of Hildesheim offers opportunities for personal, educational and professional development.

Creation of the foundation
The foundation Families in Need Hildesheim is a dependent foundation of the Ev.-luth. Kirchenkreisverband Hildesheim. The occasion for the creation was the inheritance of Gertrud Zscheile who wanted to support children in need with her inheritance. To fulfil this wish, the estate administrator created the foundation Families in Need Hildesheim in cooperation with the Ev.-luth. Kirchenkreisverband Hildesheim.
The members of the foundation work on a voluntary basis. The foundation is subject to legal supervision of the Ev.-luth. regional church of Hannover.
Support
Anyone who wants to get involved for Families in Need can volunteer for the foundation. Everyone who wants to give families in need a perspective can contribute with their ideas, connections and knowledge.

The patron
The Landessuperintendent (i.R.) Eckhard Gorka is the patron of this foundation.
He says: “On the 24th of December 2009 Gertrud Zscheile died at the age of 101 years. With her attitude, that was characterized by Christian responsibility, she helped there, where especially children had to suffer from poverty and discrimination. Mrs. Zscheile set an example with her inheritance and provided it for socially orphaned children. In order to keep her legacy, the foundation Families in Need was brought to life. We thank Mrs. Zscheile and bear her spiritual and financial heritage in mind.“
The Foundation's Executive Board
The executive board consists of six members with voting power. It supervises and controls the proper administration of the foundation. In consent with the Ev.-luth. Kirchenkreisverband Hildesheim, it decides on the general matters of the foundation.
Part of the FiN executive board are Thomas Buschjohann (chairman), Matthias Böning, Gabriele Fürstenberg, Hermann Reinhold, Ulrike Zeuner and Elisabeth Junge.
Numbers & Facts
Since the establishment of the initiative and the foundation Families in Need, around 500.00 euros have been used for families in the region of Hildesheim: with stabilizing methods, crisis interventions, and arrangements for further help. What is more, FiN supports families directly with, for instance, financing school and trainee material, travel expenses, furniture, providing a living space and energy supply and therapeutic measures or support.
